Wilderness First Aid
May 21 - Camp Billy Gibbons
 
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is the assessment of and treatment given to an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. Participants will learn how to assess, treat, and (when possible) contain emergencies within the scope of their training. Youth and adult Scout leaders over age 14 are invited to participate and earn their certification. Register by May 7 to avoid a late fee.

    • Seth Barberee served as CVC of Registration. Seth and members of Penateka made us proud with their service.
    • We appreciate all of the work performed by our Lodge Chief Lorenzo as he prepared for and presented Penateka's bid for the 2017 Conclave. Although we did not win the COC vote, we will enjoy the 2017 Conclave at Camp Garland in Stonewall, LA.

The Eagle Scout is the highest attainable rank in the Boy Scouts. Only 4% of Scouts are granted this rank after years of hard work, leadership, service, and a board of review.

T3 Train the Trainer - Part 1
May 21, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - Camp Tonkawa
 
Training for youth and adult leaders to introduce new teaching techniques and skills.
 
Upon completion of The Fundamentals of Training, new trainers will be able to apply the techniques they have learned across the BSA’s leadership development programs, from unit level youth leader training taught by youth for youth, to position-specific and supplemental training for adult leaders.

Grant Awarded to Help Scouts Achieve Eagle
 
Texas Trails Council received a grant from the National Eagle Scout Association. This grant was awarded to help the Texas Trails Alumni Association provide career mentoring and merit badge assistance to Scouts in the areas of law, medicine, aviation, and military.
 
We will begin with a legal merit badge seminar later this year. Judge Lee Hamilton will be leading this 1-day seminar to help Scouts earn their Law Merit Badge. He will also help to establish career mentoring programs with judges and attorneys in our council.

The 13th Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook was prepared with the future in mind. Check out some of these new features:

2015 Merit Badges Rankings

Scouts are required to complete 21 merit badges for Eagle Scout. 138 badges are currently offered. Here are the rankings for 2015 based on the total # of Scouts who completed the badges.

Joe Kita, a former Cub Scout who left Scouting after Webelos, wanted to earn the honor that eluded him as a youth.
